steady as she goes
We started giving our 10 yr old dog this medication when he was diagnosed last year with a Grade 3 heart murmur. Roughly 1 year later, his heart murmur was still assessed at Grade 3. While it would be nice if the Grade level improved, at least it did not get worse. We are continuing to give him this medicine.

Would give 10 stars if I could!
I started using this product nearly 4 years ago, when one of my dogs was given months to live. He was in heart failure due to valve disease. I cannot credit this product 100%, as he was also put on meds, but vets still only gave him months, as he had two bad valves and was in end-stage heart failure. I just lost him at nearly 15, when he wasn't even supposed to make 12, and it wasn't even due to his heart (brain tumor). I had him in for an echo about 4 months ago and the cardiologist said if she didn't know better (he had his first echo there), she wouldn't believe it was the same dog. She wouldn't even give a prognosis, as he actually looked great! His valves were still not functioning like they should, as the damage was done, but his heart had shrank, and the backflow was minimal, all things considered.I started these drops while I waited for his first echo (scheduled due to murmur noted at checkup). I could hear his heart swoosh just sitting next to him before he turned around and started to improve. I used the large dog/bottle for my 28# Shiba and did one dropper-full each morning. He was a very picky eater at the time, and he never had an issue with the flavor of this on his food. I also gave the meds that were prescribed and Cardio Strength, both which were recommended by Cardiologist. These drops are the only thing outside of *normal* treatment protocol, and he defied all odds, so I can only believe this had a huge impact.Secondly, I had another dog, different breed, diagnosed over 2 years ago with DCM. This is not a good diagnosis, with only about 25% making it 2 years past diagnosis. I didn't start these with her until about a year ago as I wasn't sure about interaction with meds (she was on different ones than the Shiba), and couldn't get a straight answer from the cardiologist (different one that the Shiba saw). She wasn't doing all that well, so I decided I didn't have much to lose and started her on these drops as well. For her, being she is bigger at 70#, I did a dropper-full 2x day. She is now over 2 years past diagnosis and doing seemingly well heart-wise. Echo in a month. I anticipate I will likely lose her to something other than heart issues just based on what I've observed lately.I would highly recommend these drops to anyone with a dog that has heart issues. Obviously I am not a vet, but I will always get these on board if I have any future heart-related diagnosis with any of my dogs. I will also use any of the products from this company should they be related to issues that pop up, simply due to the trust that has been built up from the use of Young at Heart!

Vet said euthanize 5/24/24 and ... he's still here
Would you try something totally against the advice of "the experts" for love ?The vet was insistent we put him down immediately after xray showing the heart almost twice as big as normal and before the sedation wore off on 5/23/24. Photo taken today, 3/26/25.Mom called me and I said come on, he's got a cough but let's at least read up on itWe do 6 drops twice a day for a 10 pound chihuahua. He still has an occasional bad day or two a month but all others are perfect without any coughing at all.If this post is still up, Yoda at 15 is still alive and kicking. And no one is taking him away from mama. With Young at Heart, you can only live twice.

Stable heart disease for the last 2.5 years!!
My male chihuahua was diagnosed with heart disease July 2016 [9 years old, grade III/VI, degenerative mitral valve disease], and at the time, his veterinary cardiologist did not recommend or suggest any supplements to support his heart. Because I was so relieved that he did not require any medications at the time, I was totally okay with just continuing to do what I was always doing. One year later, July 2017, we went back to the cardiologist for a check up - I got another great report stating that his heart disease has not progressed. Once again, I asked about anything I could give to support the heart, and he said that there isn't any research out there that suggests supplements in pets slow down the progression of the disease. At this point, I was not satisfied with that answer and went out to do some research on my own. That's when I read about Hawthorn in humans and how in people with valve issues, this tincture has really improved their cardiovascular health - so of course, I had to try it out - PLUS it's bacon flavor, a big hit with a sometimes picky chihuahua.Angus has been receiving this in his food twice daily, 5 drops each meal, since November of 2017. He does get an echocardiogram every 6 months, but the cardiologist visits are only once annually. July 2018, the cardiologist was genuinely surprised by Angus's progress, or lack there of in this case, and reported that Angus is "beating the odds" and that he has static heart changes from last year. What pet owner wouldn't want to hear that?? Angus has never refused his food because of the flavor, each bottle has arrived intact, quickly through Amazon, and the dropper is long enough to get every last drop out of the bottle!Angus turns 12 next month, and just had his 6 month echo performed with still the same numbers and report. I hope to update this in July to see what changes, hopefully none there will be. It could be that I am lucky, and this supplement doesn't help at all, but reading the human articles and studies, I believe that to be not quite the case. I know at some point Angus WILL need heart medications, but the idea behind this supplement is to push that off as far as possible. He also eats a raw diet, gets Ubiquinol, Antinol, and CBD oil - he also gets quite a few joint/dental supplements but those are not related to heart health (:If any of my dogs develop heart disease due to a valve issue in the future, I will always go to this supplement. And always let your veterinary team know ALL supplements you are giving your dog, especially something like this, because it could alter the way medications work for your pet.NOV 2019 UPDATE: So Angus had another echo last week, and at this time, there is a recommendation to start Vetmedin. He now has a 4/6 murmur but still in stage B2 (which he has been in since at LEAST last year). On a positive note, Angus has gone for 3.5 years without needing any medications and even now, he is doing EXCELLENT! I have not noticed any coughing, exercise intolerance, lack of appetite, nothing -So overall, I truly believe that this supplement has given Angus even more time with me, and starting Vetmedin now is still a proactive approach (based off of the EPIC trial study that was done). He is turning 13 in Feb, and I am very happy with how well he is doing overall.
