Q: Both rings on each end should be connect to each other? I received this collar and there no way I can connect them ring to ring only in chain ??

No the rings do not connect together. Look on YouTube for the proper usage of a fur saver collar. Each ring is used for a different function. Learn the proper use BEFORE using it in your dog. It will make both of your lives easier.

Q: How do you choose which wire thickness is best? Is it based on size of dog or length of hair? My adult 85lb short hair dog has thick skin/neck rolls.

Our shepherd has very thick fur so we use the larger gauge. I think that the gauge usually increases with the length of the chain.

Will start with a couple of things. Is your dog an adult or a puppy? I would also recommend taking a shoelace and measure that around your dogs next. That way you can select the right size.

Q: How do you get this collar to look like the picture, where one ring is through the other?

Take one ring in one hand and hold the chain straight up over that ring. Drop (or feed) the chain through the ring that you are holding. And you should have exactly what is in the photo. Hope this helps.
